Dear Dr Deacon,

On 15th September 1998-09-98 I was examined by you on the personal instructions of Deputy Chief Fire Officer Simon Smith and through his liaison with you over the telephone. As explained to you at the time this was an unprecedented event; a medical instituted at less than 24 hours notice. Also unique by way of the personal intervention of Deputy Chief Fire Officer Smith who instructed you personally as to medical strategy to be adopted. Furthermore you will recall that this acute medical intervention was undertaken at a time when I was neither unwell or on sick leave.

Subsequent to your medical examination of me, that is if your actions could be described as such and I have doubt they actually could, the Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Hewitt Alcock wrote to me with his interpretation of the report submitted by you (on or around 15th September 1998). In essence, Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Hewitt Alcock claims, on the basis of your report that medical related events three months previous to 15th September 1998 have been dis-proved.

Indeed this seems to suggest that the medical certificates associated with previous sickness are false. At the same time Chief Fire Officer Malcolm Hewitt Alcock is also, I believe, suggesting you dispute the reliability of my own Doctor?

I have discussed these concerns with Eileen Walker who is a colleague of yours. In response, I have been told the medical was conducted to assess my fitness and suitability to work on the 15th September 1998. At the same time she told me I should request you to provide me with a copy of your report, that subsequent to your supposed medical examination of me 15th September 1998. As such I wish to make a formal request for the report in full.

yours sincerely

A D Wigglesworth BSc, G.I.Fire.E.
