Dear Mr Wigglesworth,

YOUR CLAIM

I have today been contacted by Ms Linda Homer of Suffolk County Council with regard to your complaint of harassment. Ms Homer has telephoned me to assure me that while she respects your right to choose to leave this matter in the hands of myself and the industrial tribunal, if you choose to deal with the complaint of harassment through her, then you will receive no detrimental treatment.

I explained to Ms homer that you had adopted your stance purely because having already used a standard procedure in the Brigade (the near miss reporting procedure), you are now subsequently facing discipline charges. In those circumstances, your reluctance to invoke any Brigade procedures is entirely understandable.

Ms Homer has stated that the harassment procedure is a Council one and not a Brigade one and therefore there will be no undue influence from the Brigade or its senior officers.

I have read through the booklet that you have been given about the procedure. You clearly feel and indeed appear to be the victim of a process of harassment for whatever reason. Ms Homer appears to possess a genuine desire to address the issues you have raised with a view to reaching a satisfactory solution. Such a desire is commendable and can only be beneficial to the future relationship between you and the Brigade. The procedures cannot affect your claims to the industrial tribunal and therefore I cannot see any reason why you should not use the facilities being offered by Ms Homer to their full extent.
